Pig Camp Songs
« on: February 13, 2024, 10:09:54 PM »
I fly to Arizona this week for Pig Camp.  Meaning we camp, cook all sorts of wild game, drive side by sides, and generally have a fantastic time in the desert.
And some of us have javelina tags.

We've been doing this for probably 25 years, long before any of us had kids.  But now there are multiple generations involved.  For many in this extended family, this is the first camping/hunting experience for the kids.  We've got kids coming from four States this year. At night, we sit around and cook over a giant, white hot mesquite fire.  It's glorious.  Since covid, Pig Camp is now like 30 people!  We might have 7 tags in camp, but most are just there to revel in being free to roam the desert with good friends.

I'm putting a music play list together for this year.  If you were sitting around a camp fire in the southern Arizona desert with 29 of your closest friends and family, what would you play?  Reply back with your songs for the playlist.  Right now I've got lots of classic country and classic rock, Jonny Cash, Willie, Waylon, CSN, CCR.  Some newer stuff, Florida Georgia Line, Luke Combs, etc.  What you got?

Always enjoy eagles music when driving in AZ. Takes me back to when I lived down there.
Will be headed to Ajo AZ soon. I hope, we see pigs in town usually when there, never hunted them yet
In God we trust, all others bring cash.

Do not say, Why were the old days better than these? For it is not wise to ask such questions.

Sounds like a good time for all. Since I listen to new age Jazz my choices would The Rippingtons, Keiko Matsui and Jeff Lorbor.

Here are a few from my cabin playlist that are suitable for most listeners in a camp setting

Marshall Tucker Band - Can't you see
Molly Hatchet - Dreams I'll never see
Traveling Wilburys - End of the line
Rolling Stones - Blinded by rainbows
Supertramp - Goodbye stranger
Mellencamp - Cherry bomb
Paul McCartney - Junior's farm
The Kinks - Living on a thin line
Cat Stevens - Oh very young
Dire Straits - Romeo and Juliet
Pearl Jam - Yellow Ledbetter / Black
Anything from CSN

Cody Jinx is pretty good.
Whiskey Myers.
Aaron Lewis.

Really comes down to your taste.

Although this version is probably NOT young kid friendly.

Thanks all!  Pigville 2024 was fantastic!  Amazing weather, great time, great friends, and a great playlist enjoyed by all!  Much appreciate the input from Hunt-Wa.

My kid got his pig on Friday.  The shot was clean broadside through the lungs, we packed it out whole and gutted and skinned in a tree at camp, to avoid any taint from the scent gland, etc. We boned it out and ate the heart, tenderloins and backstraps around the campfire on Saturday. We didn't want to dry it out over the mesquite fire, so cooked it on a griddle instead.  It was spectacular.  Like the best tasting, juiciest pork we've ever had.  I think javelina are like antelope - taken care of properly, they can be amazing.  If not, they can be the nastiest buggers around.
