GPS and State game lands
« on: June 13, 2009, 09:03:28 PM »
Hello; Recently I got a Garmin Astro, it is great! I've been searching for GPS coordinates of State game lands, their borders, specifically. Sometimes while chukar hunting you can't tell were the line is! Most times it is no big deal but it would be nice to know for sure. Well I've been searching on "Go Hunt" but cant bring up the numbers, has anyone solved this? Or are there other sources?

I use National Geographic TOPO for Washington state- it has all of the USGS quad maps for the entire state.  It's available for MAc and PC, costs $100.  From National Georaphic's website, you can download a map with all the GMU borders, as well as species specific hunting aeas.  You can also sink it with your GPS.  I love it.

On the Go Hunt site you have to tweak the settings on your web browser.  Check the Help section of the Go Hunt site you will find the information you need to display the Long/Lat numbers in the Go Hunt mapping application.

If anyone is looking for deer and elk areas (as noted in the hunting regulations, not areas where deer and elk live), PM me.  I have .gpx files of all of them.

Thanks Jeff 100, I'll try that! Thanks to everyone who's responded, I got new rechargeable batteries and boy did they change the useable time on the handset. I guess after six years they wear out, who knew?

One thing to be cautious about is that sometimes public lands that are shown on Go Hunt, Public Lands maps, etc. are outdated.  Sometimes WDFW, or DNR will do land exchanges or sell off some parcels and it won't get updated right away on the internet or the public land maps..........just something to keep in mind. :twocents:
