Thinking about the island and how it's restricted to shotguns for modern firearm... If you're hunting WA islands do you go 12 or 20 gauge? And probably slugs over buckshot eh? Gotta get some 12ga and 20ga slugs and pattern them outta my different shotguns and see what feels best.

I have hunted BT on the island(s) for a long time.  12g or 20g slugs, either one works.  You are looking <50 yard shots.  We all switched to archery for this a long time ago.  (Of course, my best buck ever was a 12g slug.)

Mailed out 30 letters today... identified some more parcels that look juicy so i got some more letters to write.

Gotta actually get out there and walk around soon.

You need to follow up the letters with both a phone call and a door knock. Use the letter as your excuse for knocking/calling. No one will go out of their way to help you, but it helps a lot to show you’re putting in effort as most will never even open the envelope.

What database do you use to get people's phone numbers? Not really my style to call unsolicited,  but I've given them my contact info if they care to respond.  In my letters I've offered to help land owners with manual labor managing their land even offering to do dump runs for them. If they don't open the letters they're missing out as far as I'm concerned.

A decent % don't live on the property I'm asking for permission to hunt... so knocking on doors on island is only going to go so far.

I'm most optimistic about the land owners who live out of state especially those where their land on island is undeveloped, I'd imagine the folks in VA or SD aren't gonna care as much as the hippies that live on island.

Same way you got their names/addresses, onx then google. It’s not 100%, but enough googling and I probably have about a 75% success rate of being able to find some kind of contact number or email address.
