So I drew a Anderson Island second deer tag this year... Feelin foolish for having even put in for it now looking at my prospects of finding a land owner to grant permission.

Anybody on hunt wa know any land owners on Anderson Island who are cool with hunting?

Gonna be building a list from onxmaps and then starting a letter writing campaign but I figure it's probably a lost cause just sending out letters and hoping the hippies want ecological balance.  :dunno: The dream would be to boat in to their shore from across the sound, then bring the deer back on the boat... Might get some weird looks at the launch though I suppose BUT you could avoid the ferry and all that brings going that way?

Any hot tips? I got a vail permit this year otherwise so will be happy hunting out in skookumchuck for my main deer tag.

It's A LOT EASIER to get a "YES"" face to face... Good luck

I may be interested in collaborating on efforts if you’re interested in a hunting partner. I live near by and have a boat. Would definitely go over with you and spend a day knocking doors.

I use to hunt Anderson island 15+ years ago and had 2 land owners who begged me to hunt their property. They considered the deer to be pests. I am not sure if they still live there but I could easily find out if you don't have any other luck.

You’d be much better off face to face, spend a day on the rd introducing yourself and asking for permission. Good luck!
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Sinister thought... considering renting an Airbnb during the season, one that's on at least 5 acres... bring the wife along for a "island getaway" with coolers full of ice and other supplies...

You think an Airbnb host is gonna give a hoot?  ;)

Please do not, that has the potential to really blow up. Hunters already have a bad reputation, that likey won’t help if anyone finds out.

Theres a section maintained by the Nisqually Land Trust that looks promising.

It looks like private access is the way to go. It isnt a huge island, you could rent an air BNB, get on a bicycle, and knock on the door of every person who owns more than 5 acres in one day with time to grab lunch. It could even make for a good weekend getaway with the wife / girlfriend if you can think of something to do on a Sunday.

What country can preserve it's liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon & pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants.

If he got permission from the Air B and B host no problems!

Exactly why I said a sinister thought though because I wouldn't do it without permission, I'm just not that kinda guy.  I worked for DOC long enough that I ain't tryin to be on the wrong side of the system.

If you did go full evil sneak on this though hypothetically.. a suppressor on the shotgun would be a must.

Looks like Andy island restricts to shotguns, archery or muzzleloader only during modern firearm so the 12ga is what I've got that I'm confident with.  Gotta pattern a couple different slug rounds to see what the old 870 flings the most accurately...

Gonna take the wife for a get away weekend soon at one of the airbnbs,  knock on doors when the weather is nice and get some use on my bike. Think I ought to get my mullet trimmed off or toned down a couple clicks before going to not look like a total trouble maker though  :chuckle:

If you can go archery you are probably more likely to get permission from a landowner.

If you convert the mullet into a man bun the success odds for getting permission will go up  :chuckle:

Ive been punching 2nd deer tags on the san juan islands for a long time. The deer are dinky and not a big challenge to figure out, but all of the work goes into getting access and that can be much more of a rewarding hunt than the actual deer. Good luck, and have fun!

Mailed out 30 letters today... identified some more parcels that look juicy so i got some more letters to write.

Gotta actually get out there and walk around soon.

Thinking about the island and how it's restricted to shotguns for modern firearm... If you're hunting WA islands do you go 12 or 20 gauge? And probably slugs over buckshot eh? Gotta get some 12ga and 20ga slugs and pattern them outta my different shotguns and see what feels best.
