Canopy value
« on: August 14, 2024, 10:31:42 AM »
Anybody know of a good source to get a reasonable selling price for a used canopy? I am going to be trading in my pickup here in the next few months and most dealers have told me the canopy adds no value on that trade. Based on that, it makes more sense to just sell it and put that cash towards buying a new one. I have looked on craigslist and a few other places and the prices are all over the place with no real rhyme or reason.

It's about like winning the lottery to find a buyer that wants the exact model someone is trying to sell, when it comes to a canopy.
I've tried the market 3 different times selling and buying used and the frustration is damn near not worth the hassle, on both sides.
List yours online for $400 and if someone offers you anything, within the few months you have the current truck, take it. If it is still on your truck at trade in time, leave it on and avoid the dumbness you will deal with storing it until that magical individual sees your post to buy it.

Yeah if it's in decent shape and is a name brand like ARE or LEER or Snugtop you might get around 1 grand for it. If it's a run of the mill off brand closer to $500. Make sure you list the bed dimensions and what vehicle it came off of in your advertisement.

I feel your pain.  I have a 2007 F150 with a very nice Leer canopy.  <200k miles and very clean.  Tried to use it on a trade in.  Dealer was firm at $2100. Private party Kelly blue book is $5500.  I paid $5000 for the canopy brand new.  So, my decision was to keep the truck.   I now have a very nice and clean farm pick up with a shell.  I put the canopy on Craigslist and the only replies I received were that people were willing to take it if I gave it to them no charge. I don't need the shell anymore, but can't just give it away as I know I will kick myself somewhere down the line if I do.

well its a snugtop off my 2013 f150 with the 6'6" bed. In good shape besides a small ding I put in it lifting the stupid thing off my truck on my shoulders  :o. It is lined and has a nice led light that is awesome when sleeping in the bed.

What color? Will that fit a 2021?

Nope it won’t fit a 2021 from what I can find online. I am looking at a new f150 and would love to just keep it and get it painted but read that newer models have a different box and tailgate shape.

This is the color

Well dang.  Was hoping it would fit. Been looking for a while but can't stomach the prices :chuckle:

Looks like the same color as my 2018.  But I don't think it will fit mine either.

Good luck with your sale.

My canopy just showed up for my new Ram. Been waiting 7 weeks. They don't give them away, that's for sure.

Oh my lucky stars! I have the same color 2012 F150 with the 6'6" bed,  and have been pricing canopies also. I'd like to get a canopy put on before hunting season. And I'm only an hour away from Wenatchee! If you don't mind would you send me the dimensions and your price? I just might be able to take it off your hands
