Turkey hunting etiquette during big game season
« on: September 12, 2024, 07:10:55 AM »
Hey all, I went scouting this week preparing for ML season and took my shotgun with me. It's archery season, but I only saw 4-5 camps in the hundreds of miles of mountains I traversed, so when I found a flock of turkey, one came home and turned into Turkey Chili (INCREDIBLE BTW!)

My questions is how do hunters feel about turkey and grouse hunters during the big game season? I suppose it's best to try and time it around the hunters, and be in areas they arent but thought I would ask the question! I am tempted to bring my shotgun on my ML hunt as well and if deer dont want to play, turkey and grouse will!

I think as long as you aren't knowingly wandering into people's setups you are fine. Other hunters have pushed animals my way a lot and if you are targeting different species, there shouldn't be any competition either.

I know a lot of guys scout during archery season and walk through my cameras or stand setups, that's just the way it is. Plenty of woods and animals to go around.

Heck yea hammer away. Fall turkey is just as much a season as archery deer or elk. Just like bear hunt all you want, just my  :twocents:. But I’m also one that would go find them and see what they shot and give them a congrats.
Slinging arrows and flinging lead is in my blood!

It’s all hunting. If it’s open go for it. I would not knowingly walk through a guys hunt but most time by the time I see them in the woods it is too late.

But let’s face in WA there are a lot of folks loving the outdoors.

It’s a non issue…. Give the same common courtesy you would give to any hunter for any season.  But get out there and hunt.  You have just as much right as the next guy, regardless of quarry.

Folks in the midwest get pissed at squirrel and rabbit hunters hunting squirrels and rabbits during deer season.

They can get pissed all they want. If they dont want to share the woods they can join a hunt club or get a lease. Just be courteous and treat your neighbors as you would have them treat you.
What country can preserve it's liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon & pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants.

It’s public land? You can do whatever legal recreation you want, deer and elk hunters do not reserve the rights to use the woods exclusively during open seasons. Just us some common as other mentioned, most hunters know they are likey sharing the woods with others.
