Not sure how big your box is.  I've used Frabill worm bedding in the past with pretty good success.  Don't really know what is in it.  Looks a lot like ground up newspaper and dirt which is probably what it is.  They just put dirt and old newspapers in plastic wrap and sell it to people like me  :chuckle:

In all seriousness it did work at keeping them alive and growing

We always used shredded newspaper, potting soil and coffee grounds.

My dad was all about making sure the coffee grounds went into the worm box.

Horse manure. Free and  it will compost quickly.

Raised and sold nightcrawlers for years when I was a kid. Went out and picked up some good thick moss and used that. Sprinkled a little water on it occasionally and changed it out occasionally. Worked great.

I keep 400 0r so on hand in the spring and early summer. I just use a mixture of potting soil and dirt from my garden. It does need to be changed out every 3 weeks or so. You also need to feed them. They make a food for them that is sold at most sporting goods stores. dry crumpled up leaves work also. Do not use grass.
