Lion hound?
« on: September 28, 2024, 09:31:49 AM »
One of the kids hit a good lion with his muzzleloader this morning.Found good blood but haven't found the lion yet. (He has a tag)  They're still tracking but hard with it so dry.  Wondering if anyone near might have a good hound if they can't find.  About 3-4 miles from Hunters.  Not sure if it's legal to use a dog for retrieval only.

Not legal to retrieve with hounds

I was afraid that might be the case. Guess we'll  just keep looking.

Blood tracking dogs are legal no matter what breed

Well, tracked the cat about a mile.  Leaving fair blood, but all down low in the brush or on the ground. I'm suspecting a leg shot. Finally followed to the confluence of 3 steep, brushy canyons and could find no more blood indicating which one he may have dropped into. Hate loosing an animal like that, but don't know what else we could have done.  Spent most of the day looking.

If they followed blood that far it's probably not a dead lion. A mile is a long way to track anything but it's probably not a fatal hit unfortunately
