Bitterroot elk suggestions?
« on: June 19, 2009, 10:54:31 AM »
Has anyone hunted the southern end of the Bitterroots for elk.

I'm not absolutely set on this area but looking.

I'm looking for a big bull.....who isn't?    :chuckle:

I have some ideas but I'm trying to decide where to concentrate my efforts for this fall...... Montana is big.

Probably going to start with bow then if need be, rifle hunt the general season.

If you have, and you would care to share some insight, please pm me. Pics are good too!

Thanks, I appreciate the link.

I had already read it.

Every unit I read about, the elk numbers are down because of the wolves.

I guess that's a fact of life now.    :'(

I know that the predation obviously affects the survival rate of the calves (bad for the long term) but how does it affect the mature bull survival rate?

I guide in the 'Roots. Give me a pm, and I could help you along your way. Just not in my area!

The root is no longer the place to look for Big Bulls... but there are still nice bulls there for sure.... Are you willing to really hit the backcountry hard or do you want to hang closer to roads and trails??

This was NOT a big bull...but was a southern bitt bull nonetheless! :0)
