Firing Center
« on: October 12, 2024, 05:49:10 PM »
Gave it a go today for quality bull in Firing Center, not a single elk, doesn’t help that all the units to the North are closed and have been, and are rumored to be closed till mid Nov, seen a couple 180 ish bucks today, not as many hunters as I thought, see what next few days hold 🤷🏽‍♂️

And that is exactly why that shouldn’t be a quality hunt and should be put back to bull. But the game department needed to get more quality tags drawn so they moved alkali to the quality draw.  That being said, there are elk in every unit just not as abundant.  Good luck

Tribal onslaught doesn’t help.  Typically when I go out there to film there is quite a bit of pressure.

 :yeah:
That's the issue right there....tribal pressure. In the most sensitive big game time, late season/winter.
The entire region, 340-342-335-336-328-329, is showing the effects and impact of too much over pressure years.

If I wouldn't get so much flack, I'd post images taken over the last 15 years of tribal flatbed trucks. Late November, early December loaded with elk piled on 3-6 at a time going down the 1500 road in GMU-360.

How is the Yakima herd doing? At or above objective? I believe so,  with a large antlerless allowance coming in a couple weeks.

I spent a week there last week and passed on a cow that was in a deep gully and would have been very very difficult to retrieve.

Seen two bulls pulled out on Sunday the 13th.  Seen a heard of about 20, but I was in the wrong Training Area.

lol; typical for this forum to blame the tribes for what is, substantially, an issue of the army not opening the areas where the bulls happen to be at the time.

It's not like there aren't a whole bunch of nice bulls running around on the base (even if they do like to hang out in the closed areas).
"master" hunter - still a noob.
