What a Trip, it just keeps getting better
« on: November 12, 2024, 11:28:46 AM »

You can't make this up. OUCH !

Well three of us went over to Eastern Washington for opening weekend for a week to trap some rats, muskrats that is. Steve, Karen and me.
Steve got over there on the 30th and I got there on the 31st and Karen got there on the 1st of November.

Steve set up his wall tent, I brought my camping trailer, and Karen drove her RV over.
Steve set up a couple ponds and Karen and I set up some irrigation ditches.
First couple of days were nice weather wise. Chilly morning but warmed up in the afternoons.
First two days Karen and I set up these ditches with colony traps and Steve set ponds with floats.
Third day Karen got one nice big jumbo rat, I didn't get anything, and Steve picked up six rats of the one pond he checked.
Fourth day Karen had to leave due to see had to be back at work the next day, so we pulled her line and checked my line.
I picked up my first rat which was a nice big jumbo. I am reaching for him (I used my extended paint pole) it broke....... :bash:.. Dang.
On our way back to camp, a farm truck passes us and a rock about the size of your fist hits my windshield and breaks it....... :bash:... Dang.
Karen says it sounded like someone took a shot at you it was that loud.
We get back to camp she load up and off she go's.

Back at camp we're supposed to get heavy winds, so we hear. We look up the weather channel on our phones and it says 17mph.
By 3:30pm, the winds start picking up to maybe 25-30mph and they stay steady for the next 8+ hours with gusts up to 65mph.
I get Steve to stay in my trailer he is not going to stay in his tent.
The winds are hitting 45mph+ to the point that we run out of the trailer and tie the tent (one side that is picking up) to my truck.
Back in the trailer we go, have dinner and call it a night. My trailer battery is not holding a charge. I'll need a new one...... :bash:... Dang.
Winds stop around 1:00am.
We look outside in the morning and Oh My GOD, it looked like a Tornado went through camp.
The next couple of hours I helped Steve pick up camp. He went out and checked his floats on the one pond and found all but one float.
I pulled my line and had to leave for a appointment the next Day. Steve stays one more day and pulled his line and left.

Cost to me:
3 tanks of gas  $150.00
Paint pole        $45.00
Windshield      $300.00
Battery           $190.00

Total               $ 685.00 +or- $20.00

Steve the wall tent cost $2,000.00 but he thinks he can save it except he needs 7-8 poles that got bent

Karen made out the best, she left just in time.

Overall, it was a good trip and great time with friends  :IBCOOL: and some good memories.
Are we going to do it again?  You bet. This coming spring so if anyone want to come along for a great time let us know.
JC   :hello:

Well that sucks...years ago vacationing at Banks lake mid summer.  Huge lightening/wind storm blew in one night.  Luckily we were in my mother in laws camper van.  Turned the headlights on and watched many tents get blown onto the lake.  That stuff ain't no joke
