Jake how long have you been trapping?

Another vote for a post knife! I took that recommendation from Jake and glad I made the investment. Trapping and putting up fur is a huge time and effort commitment and you won’t be good at either for a while, stick with it, you’ll get better and faster over the years

Hey everyone. I'm new to trapping and hide tanning. I've only caught a few coons and one otter and I need some help. I'm proficient in skinning because I've hunted my whole life but fleshing, well that's another story. Watching videos makes it look so simple and in return makes me even more frustrated.  Anyone willing to help a newby learn?
Where you out of?  It's easy to link up with a WSTA member and get to practical tips.  All have similar as well as different ways of putting up fur.  Fleshing and putting up the fur eem intimidating at first, but once you see it and have a couple pointers you'll be fine.  My fur shed door is always open, and I also watch others constantly to try to learn something new.

I’ll tell if you have a dozen beaver to skin and put up and you clean skin and I’ll skin and put a fleshing knife to it I’ll beat you by half the time . And even when you “ clean skin “ you still gotta touch up when boarded or hooped there’s no reason to clean skin unless you’re only doing one or two critters
i am with ya

I learned the most about skinning and fleshing from the Professional Fur Handling series of DVDs. There are four DVDs and they cover almost every fur bearer. I could watch them over and over to make up for my lack of talent, lol. Fred Lawrence recommended them to me. I am very grateful to Fred, George Brady and Bernie Nelson for taking time to get me started.
