10 Year Hunting Plan
« on: January 18, 2025, 02:41:18 PM »
Greetings,

I’m currently planning out my next 10 years of hunts. Request what units in what states I should be applying for to start building a stockpile of points for western game. I guess what I’m asking is, what’s your dream hunt and what are you doing to get there.

That’s a very loaded question! Hahah!!
So my wife hunts witch me, also a couple buddies, we all have points in Wyoming and Oregon.
We flop back and forth between animals and states and also in hunting Washington our home state. When you apply for deer, elk, antelope, and do it you n multiple states, you can always find a hunt to make and change locations each year.
Sadly it’s taking more points to even go do a decent hunt, let alone a great hunt or premium hunt.
This is my future:
Wife
Oregon 27 points for elk-soon to draw a big 3 elk tag
3 points for deer-will apply for Murderers creek or Beulah or Malheur tag soon
Wyoming:
1 point-Cow elk tag this year-2025
3 points-deer hunt in NE corner in next 2years in repeat cycle
12 points-Antelope buck tag in central WY 2025
WA-apply for special permits and hunt off our Okanogan property of nothing pans out….bear in September, Elk in October

Myself:
Oregon
5 points for elk-bull hunt in the next 2-3 years
3 points-deer hunt Murderers creek etc next 2 years
Wyoming
17 points for elk-special draw elk hunt 2025
3 points-deer hunt NE corner continued as tags are drawn next 8 years
10 points-Antelope buck tags 2025
WA
Hunt off Okanogan property for bear elk, deer, turkey, grouse, etc. when not out of state…..

I hope your plan works the way you intend it too.
The point game is fine as long as you are not an antler trophy hunter. Those guys have no future hunts once they spend their points. If you just appreciate getting out and seeing game and accept that your personal goal is you trophy….you will be happy.
