The small group i hunt with generally shoot about ten deer a year.
Last year we shot nine of them.
Three of us have a bear tag. A buck tag and four doefive have bear v tags. Buck tags, four doe tags, black powder tags ( buck or doe) and archery tags ( buck or doe).
Once we get the amount of deer we will use for the year we are done hunting.
We don't shoot deer to fill the freezer up and keep in in there for years at a time

What doesn't get used we give it away andreplace it with fresh venison.
We like to shoot the year & half old deer. The areage about 110 to 120 pounds.
Most of us let the big does and big bucks walk.
A decent size buck will dress off around 180 pounds or so.
We process all of the deer we shoot, back in New York state they charge from $100 on up to $150 for basic cut, wrap & freeze.
We do drop off boned out meat to a processor and have them make kilbasa, venison snack sticks, pickled snack sticks & pickled sausage.
We have them blend in pork butter so you get back double the weight from what you drop off
We drop off meat from last year from a freezer back there at my sons house. I got a total of what every one wants made.
I will call the processor tomorrow morning and see how many pounds of venison he has to drop off. He will get it there tomorrow afternoon or on Tuesday morning and they will have it cc done in a week or so.
When we drop off Iast years venison they need a deer tag from last year with it to be able to process it. They give you back the deer tag when you pick up the meat.
I fly out next Monday night and my frien from Anacortes will fly in on Wednesday night.

Another fun experience here in Idaho for you guys, my 11 year old drew this antelope doe tag in the 2nd draw this year, we didn’t have a lot of time to hunt it but it was within a 1 1/2-2 hr drive from home. We were struggling to find the antelope the first few days out, the 3rd day we went out I found them, 100’s of antelope. I don’t let my son shoot more than 200 yards so getting within range of larger winter herds was tough. He actually missed a couple of shots between 150 & 200 yds and with 1 minute to spare before last light he took this doe at about 80 yards for his first big game kill. I’m hoping this will get the monkey off his back as it seems he has really struggled so far with getting on target and I am pretty sure a bad case of buck fever
