Please Help!

I have the oppertunity to go to Lapine State Park (South of Bend Oregon) this upcoming week, but only want to go if the fishing it good.  The Deschutes River runs through the campground, as well as other beutiful creeks.  I am starting to get addicted to fishing, and really want to get out there, and get some fish or at least some action!  Does anyone know how the fishing is out there right now?  What flys to use?  Anything would be a HUGE help!  I really want to get some serious fishing in all week!

the deschutes is always awesome. are you wanting to fly fish or gear fish?

sorry i missed the what flies to use question.

you might get lucky and catch the tail end of the salmon fly hatch...i'd have maybe some golden stones too, and soon you'll have pmd's and caddis.

I think I will bring both, I have a back-packing trout rod, and can use my dads Fly pole, but I have never flyfished... but can't I cast the fly in, and flot it down past where the fish hangout or over holes?  My dad will be along, and will probaly try to teach me how to flyfish a little, but i won't be good yet.  Thanks for any help again!

have your dad help you out. it's an addiction!! if you want to learn to flyfish, leave the spinning rod back at camp. it's too easy to pick up the spinning rod when you get frustrated with the fly rod. you'll never learn.

oh yeah...when the pole costs more than $20 you gotta call it a rod.  
an old guy told me that a long time ago and i never forgot it for some reason.
 

it's a good time for trout on the deschutes. they will be very interested in eating dry flies.
you could probably google for a deschutes river fishing report and get some real good info too.

Sweet, thankyou for the help.  Can I actually expect to catch fish?  I tend to get bored when I am not having alot of action... are there Brookies in the Deschutes or the Creeks flowing into it?

i don't think you're going to find any brookies.
there are a lot of trout in the deschutes...redband rainbows and brown trout. you should definitely find some action. your best bet is when you get down there hit a local tackle shop or fly shop and shoot the breeze with the guys in the shop. spend a couple bucks on some flies or spinners or something and they will usually give you the scoop on whats going on as far as the fishing goes. the wading can be difficult in places because it tends to be big water with big boulders although i'm not familiar with the area you are going to be. about 7-8 years ago we floated 48 miles of the river in the driftboat, camping out along the river at night and steelhead and trout fishing during the day. there's tons of stuff to do down there with hiking, fishing, etc. lots of deer, sheep, all kinds of cool stuff. enjoy yourself...it's a fantastic place to spend a weekend good fishing or not...although you probably won't have any trouble finding fish.

Thankyour for the info, I will post pics for sure!  The state record Brook Trout is out of the Deschutes, so who know, maybe I will get lucky! The campground I am staying at has miles and mile of mountain bike trails, many of which lead along the river, so I think I am going to ride bike around, and find some spots where I can try, I got a few spots in mind.  I think we might go a little early and go to the tackle shop which is twenty miles away.  Hopefully I will have lots of pics to show wheen I am back!

If  you are going through Bend stop at the fly shop they will set you up. Also you will be close to some of oregons premire trout lakes if the river is;nt producing but this time of year there is usually some type of bug hatch going on.

Which Fly Shop?  Do you got the name of it?

I can;t remember the name but it;s right on the main road as you are starting to leave bend. My dad guided the main deshutes out of madras and we also fished the little deschutes he always used black ants with a red head got them at oscars sporting goods in madras but don;t know if it;s still there. Stoneflys are one of the go to flys there also.
