so where would the closest place be that you could fox hunt? i know not in this state but im not sure how far east you would have to go.

I have heard there is in fact red fox here in WA, supposed to be some around Goldendale.

There are some fox in Wa. I know where one lived last Nov. but you cant hunt there.

I have seen one in the Siouxon unit but it was inside the Gifford Pinchot National forest so you cant hunt them there. I am almost positive I saw one in the Battleground unit but it was tan like a coyote so I might have been mistaken.

Baker-Snoqualmie, Okanogan, Wenatchee, and Gifford
Pinchot National Forests and GMUs 407 and 410.

i thought they were protected in this state. well in that case has anybody successfully hunted fox in Washington?

there a few around here. ive seen several. i'm not going to tell you were they are not many around. but they are in big valley's i mean real big. and they are by farm's. there along the salt water bay's to. this is the red Fox. when i head to Los Cruse new mexico. i'm Hunting along the way. once i get to Hurricane Utah.picking up Weasel a moderator on Predatormaster's. we will hunt arizona through the Kabab to Flagstaff. will be grey fox there. in new mexico will be a ton of coyote's that's ok. i called in thee red fox in Pa. at night couple year's ago and a grey a couple year's ago in oklahoma was closed. was very cool came right to me. they are small target's and move alot. and yes i have not got one yet. there's alot in idaho. Lots of them in Eastern Montana. Very few in Western Montana, have only seen two in my entire life hunting Westerrn MT, both were right along the west side of Flathead lake.

I've killed 2 in NY if you want to go 3k miles to get one. there's tons of them there.

They may be protected in many areas of the state, but you can hunt them with a camera right here in WA. In fact, one of the best areas for observing and photographing wild foxes in the entire US may be right here at Mt Rainier National Park. They are not protected. The season is 1 Sep - 15 Mar. Closed in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie, Okanogan, Wenatchee, and Gifford Pinchot NF's and GMU's 407 and 410. The regs do not specify red or gray. Taken from page 56 of the regs.

I saw a red fox on the way to PortAngeles that was dead along the highway just last week. He was past the Hood canal bridge along those big clearcuts on the way to Port Angeles. I also saw one on Ft Lewis ten years ago. Obviously not many out there, hard to hunt just for fox. Maybe coyote hunt & kill a fox when you can. Mike

My dad's buddy went coyote hunting around Umatilla, Oregon and shot a beautiful red. I am not one to truely soak up all that is said when someone says what they saw but he brought it to me to see if i could make a rug out of it. Shot at 20 yards right through the throat while in the sitting position with a 6mm. Imagine the damage. But a beautiful animal none the less.

My brother has seen them on 5th ave as well as Water Street.

You can not hunt them in Whatcom county, and Okanogon county... of course the two main county's I hunt!

Mike, one of the staff at Swanson Lakes Wildlife Area, reports having two active fox dens along his driveway. (He is self-described as a "weekend farmer" on his 640 acres.)

I'm sure it was a long driveway.

We called in a grey fox in Grant county a few years ago. No we didn't shoot him, it was too much fun watching him scoot from sage bush to sage bush trying to sneak up on the decoy.

I've seen red fox just south of Shelton (Taylor Town) and there are some on San Juan Island, good luck getting access on the latter!

I've seen a bunch on Eastbay, just drive down the road at sunrise, they are coming off the beaches.

I've never seen one on the east side. A friend of mine claims to have seen one on the west side of the river near Kettle falls. I've heard that there are some on the wet side of the state. They are cool little things. They were all over Ft Bragg, Ft Benning, and Ft Devens when I was in the service. Them and those goofy looking Possums. I'd sure like to shoot a few of those things.

Hmmmm. Not sure. Here are both kinds - which are you lookin' for? They're both rather hard to find. The one type responds readily to calls. The other tends to be scared off by repeated calling efforts. Never had much luck with either

I saw two greys in Granto County on the same day in different locations. I have never seen any in the Palouse region yet. The ones I saw were using abandoned coyote dens in September. One came to the call, and the other I walked up on in between stands.

I'm glad someone else has seen a grey in Grant Co. everyone says I was seeinng things as there are no greys in WA. I spent a long time as a trapper in the midwest and as a Trappers ED instructor back there, I know the difference.

AWS, I have hunted that area for a lot of years and that is my only sighting to this day. When the first one popped up in between stands I thought it was and extremely late season pup. When I realized that would have meant the pup was dropped in late July, it finally sunk in what I was looking at. It was only about 20 yards away and I got a great look at it with the naked eye and through a scope set at 4x. Then about an hour later I called one in about a mile and a half away. I let both of them walk. Hopefully, they can expand a little, but there are so many coyotes in that area I am not too hopeful.

I have seen two red fox in Walla Walla county. I saw one run acrossthe road in front of me east of town, and another during deer season a few years back. I could have killed it easily but i was to busy staring in disbelief. I pulled up when he was about 250 yards away but didn't shoot because i didn't even know if they were legal to shoot. I went home and looked it up and at that time they didn't even have a season for them. I was a little bit upset that i didn't shoot it, but thinking back I'm glad i would like to see more of the little guys. I'll shoot one when i start seeing them more often.

just had a buddy call me and say he's been seeing a bunch

were going to do some research and make sure where he's seeing them that they are huntable and if they are (like he thinks they are) were gunna put some fur on the deck once the hides are good again

my dad shot a beautiful black fox probably about 15 years ago now while elk hunting up in the cowiche, wish i had a picture of it but maybe he will read this and post up a photo of the mount
