so where would the closest place be that you could fox hunt? i know not in this state but im not sure how far east you would have to go.

Cascade Red Fox     http://depts.washington.edu/natmap/maps/wa/mammals/WA_cascade_red_fox.html

I have seen one in the Siouxon unit but it was inside the Gifford Pinchot National forest so you cant hunt them there.  I am almost positive I saw one in the Battleground unit but it was tan like a coyote so I might have been mistaken.

Fox None Statewide: Sept. 1, 2009 - Mar. 15, 2010 CLOSED within the exterior boundaries of the Mt.
Baker-Snoqualmie, Okanogan, Wenatchee, and Gifford
Pinchot National Forests and GMUs 407 and 410.

Lots of them in Eastern Montana.  Very few in Western Montana, have only seen two in my entire life hunting Westerrn MT, both were right along the west side of Flathead lake.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.

They may be protected in many areas of the state, but you can hunt them with a camera right here in WA.  In fact, one of the best areas for observing and photographing wild foxes in the entire US may be right here at Mt Rainier National Park.  Check this out for more photos, taken just last month:    http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,27403.0.html

They are not protected.  The season is 1 Sep - 15 Mar.  Closed in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie, Okanogan, Wenatchee, and Gifford Pinchot NF's and GMU's 407 and 410.  The regs do not specify red or gray.  Taken from page 56 of the regs.
