MA-10 Coho

Anecdotal, but the winning fish at the Edmonds derby was about 10 pounds.  Last year it was 13 pounds.

I've ran into more dinks this year than last for sure.  Kept a few resident sized and released a few in the 3# range.

Technically it was 13.14 lol. My wife had to work this year and couldn’t defend her title.

I trolled for a couple hours just off the north end of bainbridge island this morning. Got skunked. Not a bite.  4oz banana weight, flasher, and a spinner with a hoochie tail.

Good fishing in MA11 this morning. First time for me, so it took about an hour and a half to figure out the setup/depth. Started at 55’ on the downrigger per some other info, moved up to 35’ and the clip popped before I could sit back down. Hooked another that I lost, then landed my second a bit later.

We were back at it again in area 10 this morning with a couple of our clients.  Got our 4 limits of Coho.  Great season so far.  I'll be back again tomorrow morning.

Well I am not sure what to make of the MA-10 Coho fishery this year.  We scratched out our limits this weekend but took about five hours each day to do it.  It normally is a hot morning bite and then maybe an hour or two to wrap things up.

After spending a week at Neah Bay in early August I thought it would be a gangbusters year in 10.  Im not 100% convinced the bulk of the run has even showed up so maybe it will get better.

On a positive note I have not seen great results with those Spinfish the last couple years even though I really want to like them.  This year they are finally catching with just regular tuna.  Good luck out there.

tomorrow might be my last day on the water, then off elk hunting. We did great on chinook this year, caught some pinks for the dogs, and have scratched up a few coho. Wish I had more time the past week to fish, but just hasn't been in the cards. Going to bring my boat to the shop in October and get some welding projects done before seaduck season.

Interesting I never thought about keeping some pinks for the dogs.  I talked with a friend who was in Sekiu yesterday and Coho fishing was fantastic.  They even released some big Kings.  Might not be time just yet to put the boat away.  Good luck either way.

i do the same with pinks.
starting cooking our dog food a few years back, and figure if im out chasing silvers but catching pinks, might as well save them for dog food.

I can/jar the pinks then use them to supplement the kibble for the dogs. I don't feel bad about letting the kids hammer the pinks knowing that we wont eat them and that they will be utilized. Between MT and WA elk I'm out until the 2nd week of October, this week was my last fishing opportunity. I'm not complaining too hard, each year is different and for all the days I didn't hit them someone I know did. Just wasn't my year to stack the coho.

I just fillet them, then cut into chunks for the jar. Small ones I'll steak cut them.

We make salmon cakes with pinks and just season them heavily. They are better with Coho, but since they are made with flaked salmon and they have garlic salt in them, Pinks are just fine and we can save the good stuff for fillets.

I got out yesterday morning with three rods in 10.  Dead, dead, dead.  We had two take downs and caught one.  It was a big one though.  Talked to guys out on the water and at the launch that had nada.  Not even many marks on the sonar.

My buddy went out today for his last trip and he caught two at Redondo on spoons.

I thought the season would be better.  I caught a good amount of fish but still was hoping for easier fishing.  All those fish still hanging out in 4 and 5 are going to come in on the next water event unmolested.
