North Peninsula Salmon Fishing
« on: June 28, 2025, 09:30:19 AM »
I've always done my saltwater fishing out of westport and Ilwaco and am looking for advice on salmon fishing up north.

I'll be working up there in August/September and can stay anywhere from Port Angeles to Forks. Id like to find a bay that my 14' aluminum with 2.5 horse motor can be used. Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance

Ediz hook troll the point and beach by the CG station
Freshwater bay has a beach launch and will hold fish
CQ/ clallam Bay, fishing two minutes from the launch at Mason's.. which is now DFW owned so it's free.

August will be more humpies than you can handle. A 14' boat works fine with good conditions. Start now trying to find a 15hp main.

 :yeah:

With 2.5 you won't be able to go against any amount of current or even wind, either or both of which are present every day.

I had a 15hp on a 14' Smokercraft and it was OK, but a 20 or 25 would be ideal.

I would not take a 14' boat with a 2.5 hp motor around the hook. Might want to stick to near shore Sekiu stuff.

Isn't Freshwater Bay closed for fishing?

Freshwater is open or at least what most people call freshwater.  Good fishing there too.  I am headed to fish Port Angeles tomorrow morning, and might make a run to Freshwater if the bite is slow where I will be at.

Freshwater Bay itself is closed from Bachelor Rock East to Angles Point.  What most people refer to as Freshwater Bay is actually outside the bay from Bachelor Rock west to Tongue Point.

Thanks again for all this info. I believe I will do a short trip up August 5-8 and then about ten days in September.
