GMU 247 Entiat bear hunting
« on: June 28, 2025, 03:02:21 PM »
I'm considering a 3-4 day bear hunting trip in late August and am wondering if I should focus on the Entiat Wildlife Area/ Columbia river breaks, or if I should go a bit more NW in that GMU, like around Baldy Mtn., keeping huckleberries in mind.
Any luck with bears in this GMU?

I would guess the wildfire is going to limit access to much of the unit.

I'm not sure why you'd focus on this GMU?  I'd be hitting chiwawa, clark or alpine units that have more berries and higher densities of bears.

Maybe. I've go another month and a a half before I head out and that fire (Pomas) is less than 4,000 acres heading West.

Thanks. Do you mind if I DM you a map of my plan? Not looking for you to tell me where to go exactly. But assuming you're a successful bear hunter, maybe you could poke holes through my current plan, which at this point is outside of GMU 247.

The closures are in effect until October 15th minimum. Be sure and stay up to date on info. I have had more than one hunt ruined by fires.

A few years ago I was working in Ellensburg and hunted 335 after work several evenings for bear.  Ran into and saw many bears in that unit. Timbered country and got berries.

335 has to be one of the most bear dense units in that area. You can’t go a day without stumbling into a few.
