A 2006 f250 bulletproofed 6.0 powerstroke with 145k

VS

A 2007 gmc sierra Duramax LMM with 215k on it


Similar trucks, similar condition.

When I need to upgrade a truck I try to buy low mileage older vehicles. In the long run you will get more service from a low mileage vehicle and older autos are way easier and cheaper to repair when repairs are needed.

If you go with an older diesel you may have more maintenance fees but your not dealing with that DEF.  The wife had a 2018 piece of Chevy Duramax and that thing lived at the dealer, all emission issues.  Spent thousands on it and finally had to get rid of it. I have a 2015 F-350 6.7 Super Duty and no longer have any issues.

I'm a 6.0 fan boy, mine has been great, bought it new.  2006/2007 the best years to get.

That said,  even I would probably pass on a "bulletproofed" 6.0.  They are almist never bulletproofed without reason (ie., failure or tuning) and require meticulous care and maintenance.  If a previous owner dropped the ball,  you'll own the problem.

This bulletproof seems to be a good one, but I’m starting to lean gasser now, I tow big so rarely, mid 300’s cid gassers seem fine and are so much less hassle.

Gas trucks are cheaper to buy and cheaper to run, if you don't need a diesel don't buy one!
I have bought numerous trucks off this Salt Lake classified site, I sorted it for trucks under 80k miles and under $30k:

Those prices are considerably cheaper than the puget sound area.

I usually find some very good deals if I keep watching it for what I want. The last rig I bought was an. F450 manual with a 7.3 diesel and only 61k miles. Before that I bought a 2005 dodge Cummins 5.9 manual with only 48k miles. Found a Subaru forester with only 38k for my daughter in law. There are real low mileage rigs from time to time if you wait for them. I’ve bought all sorts of trailers, snow machines, utvs, etc off that site too!

Thanks Bearpaw, I found a creme puff in Salt Lake for a very good price, but I didn't want to go through the logistics of going to get it and vin inspection appointments and etc, so I let it pass. I was kinda sad about it, it was a sweetie. (Retiree owned 03 Ram 2500 Lifted, TRX, 4door, Leather, Loaded, 125k, for 13.)

I ended up getting a pretty nice 2006 Ram 2500 HD 4door 4x4 5.7 Hemi longbed with 137 on it for 10k. I'll add some geegaws to make it look like a top drawer model!

SO glad to be done car shopping for awhile!
