Another Nooksack River Drainage Bear (x2)
« on: June 28, 2009, 11:41:09 PM »
Went up this afternoon with a friend and saw these two bears.  We got to a clearing and saw two bears (the first two pics).  The one by the snow was relatively small and jet black (2nd pic), the other was quite large and redish brownish black (1st, 4th-8th pics) .  It kind of had splotches of reddish brown over the black.  We did some hiking and about 3 hours later had the bigger bear come charging through the brush and pop out into the opening not 40 yards away.  We were in the wide open and it had no idea we were there until it heard my camera clicking when I was taking pictures.  We still got a lot of good pictures and videos.  To give you an idea of how close the bear was, none of the 4th - 8th pictures are cropped or zoomed in, they were all taken with my point and shoot camera.  Overall it was really neat and we got some great pictures. We also saw a few mountain goats.  I added the picture of one that we got close to, it was a small billy, probably around 8 inches.  Not a very good picture, but you can see him...

It was really my buddy's first true hike ever and I took him up the hill to get close to a mountain goat, I thought he was doing pretty good.  We did get cliffed out at one point, but we were OK.

Very nice pics, that second one is a real nice bear. Nice that you were able to get that close to them.

It really was a big bear, it was fun being that close to a bear that had no idea we were even there.  I added some more videos.

That is one fat, happy bear!!  Great pics.  I'd be going after him in the fall..

With all of the forage in the mountains this year, the bears should be beautiful.  This is a great series.  Thanks Shane

Heck of a nice bear!  Can't wait to see what he looks like with you sitting behind him!!

Alright the video finally showed up, great photoage, those shoots up there are very steep but its nothing for the bear to go right up them.
