Well, quick update.  After overwhelming support to KEEP cellular trail cameras legal the Idaho Fish and Game Commission decided to say FU, we know better and has sent the prohibitions forward for the leguslation to approve.  The comment period was 75% to allow the continued use and they decided they know better.  They even admitted in the meeting that the cameras have no significant impact on harvest numbers.

I know quite a few people are really upset over this. I havent checked, but I wonder if people could lobby the legislators to not approve it?

Not for this at all.  All a trail cam does for me is tell me what kind of animals are in a certain spot. Saving me gas money and time.  Especially in the case of Cell cams. You can not set it up to transmit right after every pic. So its not like you can use it as a aid to go shoot something that happens to be there right now in real time.  The batteries just wont support it. Mine are set to transmit twice a day. 6am and 6pm.  By then the animal you may have on a pic is long gone. Its just nice to know whats in the area so you are not just on a hike

You must not be using Reveal cameras.  I get unlimited hi-res color pics instantly for $13/mo .  And cameras are cheap.  I could literally watch football in my RV via starlink and wait for my iphone to alert me when to hop in my sxs and go stalk the elk herd thats feeding at my cam spot.  And never mind thermals - you can spot elk at a half mile in the dark just inside the timber even.

But I get it - if you are the average hunter getting one elk every 17 years then geez louise do all you can to increase your chances.

I have Reveal cameras, but to save on batteries I have my photos delivered twice a day, 0600 and 1800.  In 5 years, other than bears on my baits, I've literally never killed an animal on one of my cameras.

I wrote my representatives.

There's a zillion places these cameras dont work because there's no service.  If you want to hunt them, they're not hard to find.

Whether I like transmitting cameras or not, the way they made the descision is infuriating.

I hope they shut this down.  They are not listening to the people.

That's bs.
I know guys who literally sit on the couch and wait until the big bear hits their bait and then go in to kill it.
It's straight up lazy, cheating, and not hunting in their case.

I've been running cellular trail cameras since 2014.  I got my first one for hunting hogs in Virginia.  My bait was 54 miles away.  That camera paid for itself in three months in saved gas.  I have NEVER gotten a photo and run out and killed an animal.  Actually my cameras are set up to only transmit twice a day.  Saves on battery.  BUT even if they transmitted right away.  It is dang near impossible get your so called lazy ass up off the couch and go and kill something on your trail camera.  No disrespect meant, but every time I see someone say this, I know they've never actually used one.  Guys that don't have or use cellular cameras sit around and fret that guys that do use them have some amazing advantage.  Honestly is BS.

I know a guy who had a bear bait close enough that he did get a picture and ran up there and shot the bear 😂 Its not practical for most hunters to do that. I have also used the cell cams on our baits where we have service and its a huge time and gas saver. Same is true for whitetails. With that said I am not against outlawing them. At some point you have to say enough is enough with technology. I remember running baits without even a trail cam and I am sure you do too. We had to learn a lot of things to determine the bear size, timing etc. in short, we had to work harder but we developed better woodsmanship. I think they should put some limits on technology even though it does make my life easier. I never thought hunting should be easy and the more trchnology we add I think we take something away from hunting.
