What are some good 12 ga factory loads for predators?
« on: November 18, 2025, 08:47:47 AM »
I have a new 12ga sitting in jail till early next month and have been looking at other threads here on coyote loads, but they seem to be on the older side.

Would anyone using a shotgun while calling care to share what loads they are currently finding to be effective?

I have not owned a shotgun since the early 90's so have not been keeping up on all the new offering as far as shot size, material, etc.   Also, have to limit it to factory loaded as I do not have the ability to do reloading.

Last time I bought a box of shells, choices were lead, steel, buckshot or slugs.  It seems that has changed somewhat...

Thanks much, looking forward to hearing more!

Shotgunned many coyotes here and Colorado. Heavy lead turkey load of 4s out of an X-full choke will anchor em to 60yds. #4Buck if you can find it. I imagine the spendy goose and turkey loads in TSS would do it also.

Salt creek makes some 2 oz TSS loads for coyotes in 2’s and 4’s. Also the larger sizes of actual Hevi Shot works really well. It’s expensive but effective. That being said I killed one with nickel plated lead 5’s while I was pheasant hunting last week. Good luck!

Thanks!!   I was pretty sure that anything reliable was going to be on the spendy side.  But I also figured that those would not be shot other than while actually hunting predators which leaves the less costly rounds for more general use/shooting.

Appreciate all the shared info, hope everyone has a good and safe Thanksgiving!!
