The Lookback
« on: December 06, 2025, 03:40:21 PM »
We spotted two bucks, one being fairly wide and heavy and the smaller, a decent buck.  THere was a chunk of private between us and the deer.  We got into the truck and drove where we could access the public land and then commenced a long hike.   We got there midday.  I spotted a bedded buck on one ridge finger and another buck standing in the shade about 500 yards away.   We slipped past the small buck and closed to about 150 yards of the buck.  A bedded doe we didnt see jumped up and took off and off went the buck.  THis was the smallest of the two bucks we saw in the morning.   My camera was giving me issues so we went over to where the finger ridge came down and fixed it in the shade.  it wasnt so much the heat, though it was crazy warm, but the shade so we could see.  I decided we should wrap around this little finger ridge to see if we could jump the big buck.   We hadnt gone far when this guy stood up.  He worked his way up while I took different photos.  THere was no following.  Thankfully, when he got to the top, he did the lookback.   We were happy to have seen this guy.  We never did find the big buck again.

These bucks you photograph, Doug, seem so photogenic, handsome fellas, like they are posing for just you.  We know that you work hard to get these shots and to bring them to us just to make us drool down our shirts, thank you.

Great Pic Doug
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Thank you. The genes in this area all seemed to be tall and not a lot of mass, and not much in the eye guard department.  This guy was an exception with the mass for sure.

Those tall ones just do it for me. I would choose that over something wider depending on the circumstances. Circumstances I have yet to encounter, LOL.
