Check this massive stergen out that was caught on the Wellamate River in Oregon. It weighs about 1000 lbs. It took these guys 61/2 hours to land it. GOOD TIMES!!

Always fun to look at the photo Martinhunter but I swear I've seen it 10 times on here before.  It was caught in the Frasier river by the way...   :chuckle:

yep frasier and 4+ hours due to 1- them being drunk or 2- the guides up there dont use heavy enough gear for fish that size, I dont have any idea why

I wonder if the fish survived after the long battle and being taken out of the water?

those things are tough, i have no doubt that thing survived.  wouldn't surprise me one bit if it's still swimming.

Sturgeon are tuff.  My buddy thought he cracked it a good one on the head and threw it in the tank.  When we got home and pulled it out to cut up it was still breathing.  I let him know that is one of the reasons to bleed the fish out prior to throwing in the tank.
Cut em!

My eyes may be decieving me, but that pole looks to be heavy enough.  He can barely get his hand around it where he is holding it.  The reel looks like a decent size reel as well.  :dunno:

I was setting up a trip on the Frazer and asked what gear they use, basically the very gear used here, heavy ugly sticks and halibut reels for the oversized.

on my trip on there we used basically heavy salmon rods with medium reels and 50lb braid....... not exactly huge fish gear.... and they did not target oversize then.... maybe thats changed

Makes you wonder how old that fish is?
