Hornady SST sabots (250 grain copper)
« on: Yesterday at 09:03:57 PM »
Haven't posted on here for a while, so here goes...

Does anyone here use these muzzy bullets who can share personal experience regarding performance in actual hunting scenarios?

Here's my dilemma, I've used these as a cheaper option for sighting in and target practice and they shoot great out of my muzzy. They actually group better than my preferred Barnes round or the Knight Bloodlines. However, the reviews I've read regarding performance are not great. The main issue being failure to expand. For this reason, I've never hunted with them.

Hoping someone here can share info to inform whether I should consider pivoting to these or just stick with what I've been doing.

Any informed input is appreciated!

they will never be used on elk in my guns again. Shot extremely well tho. I called a spike bull into 33 yards broadside and my wife drilled the elk right in the crease behind the shoulder the bull almost dropped but regained balance and stood there as we reloaded I could see blood coming from the shot as it walked off. I told her that bull is dead. We wait 45 min and take up trail and notice theres no exit blood and not very much blood. We jumped it 400 yards later to never be seen again. I know that bullet never made it to the offside lung as it woulda been dead quickly and the only bone that bullet hit woulda been a rib. I fully believe that bullet blew up or pancaked on impact. If i had used a Barnes that bull is done.
