Manulife Timberlands closed in NE Washington
« on: Yesterday at 09:48:55 AM »
Just a heads up if you don't already know.  I just called the office number in Colville and the recorded message says all lands in NE Washington are closed to public access.  That's a BIG chunk of land that's no longer available.

The bobbleheads in Olympia are so starving for money. They should start taxing the timber companies like they tax us when they charge for access or don't allow access at all. Almost 60% of WA's land is privately-held and most of that is timberland.

I know. It's time to make them pay their fair share like the rest of us.

There also going to charge more for a permit for their NE Wa permits than they do for western Wa.

I knew about some changes in Idaho and that their land in Oregon was going to close after June 1st.  But I hadn't heard or read anything about changes to northeast Washington.  I'm glad I decided to call because my planned opening morning turkey spot is on a chunk managed by them.

I’ve thought this exact same thing.  If they are going to charge a bunch of money they lose their huge tax breaks.  This change is really going to make it harder hunting public up there.  Gonna be busy

Don't sell access permits at all.
They money hungry, it will get worse .

They aren’t leasing crap imo, that’s why they are going to start selling permits in July for access to certain properties at 400 dollars a piece. Then they’ll probably lock permit holders out due to fire danger like they do in western wa.

And this is the correct answer sadly...

A lot of folks over here said the same thing, thought they'd never lease or access permits.
Look at us now,pay a lot to play.
Gold digger
Think as an investment though.
Sell 20k in permit access or 60k lease .
Whatever the number is they make on permits, double your money on a lease.
When your a gold digger, you never stop digging, you just move to a different shaft...lol

Why shouldn't owners of designated forest land be able to sell leases or permits for access? Farmers and ranchers have agriculture and/or open space property tax exemptions on their holdings and most don't allow public access and many also lease to outfitters or otherwise charge for recreational access.

Here's a thread I started on access in eastern WA.  Might be of interest if you're thinking of alternatives.
