Camp Toilet

Ok, so here is the question.  What do you all recommend for a wall tent toilet?  There are so many options.  Tired of leaning/hanging off logs.  Call me Murtaugh, "Too old for this SH*T

Build a nice comfy throne and sit it under a nice big hunting  blind.  Put a little buddy heater in and a Christmas tree scent thingy to keep it fresh.  Ours is situated over a tote that that is double lined with contractor bags.  At the end of the trip... zip tie the bags, put the lid on the tote and head for home.  Bags go in the garbage.....easy peasy.

Hey JR......The PVC fittings on the corners..... like little rod holders.......Prank ur buddies and after using the pot, leave one of those short little ice fishing poles in it with a line going down the hole.

We use an old metal drum that I screwed a toilet seat to the bottom of the drum.  We dig a hole about 18” deep and it gets you the perfect seat height. Then we set up a shower tent from cable as over the top of it.

We have used several over the years in a pop up blind. We line down to the hole with a garbage bag we cut the bottom out. ( for those taco nights). We have had wood ones that fold up. Medical chair ones, plastic barrels and our longest one was the seat portion of a chair, we had it 20 years until one of the guys drove over it.

We are currently looking for a new one.

Got a medical chair toilet at a yard sale for $12... She wanted $20... Took the catch basin out of course... Dig a nice hole and bury it when we leave...I can take it apart so it packs flat and takes about 10 minutes to set up with hole dig... Light, and takes up minimal room which is important to us... Don't actually use it very often... I usually have to go while out hunting not at night at camp...

Another pointer to make your camp toilet a little more luxury. Keep a torch next to it. When it is cold, torch the seat a little bit and it will warm it right up for you before you take care of business.

Well no expert on this and don’t practice it. But there are thousands of RVs on the road nation wide that have composting toilets. And most of those folks have the standard practice of depositing their bags of waste in rest area garbage cans.

I know of no law against it and I am not aware of any direction being given by RV industry on the topic.

My opinion is a hunter putting his crap in the trash once a year is far better than folks craping  on the the city streets and parks.

But we digress.

I wasn't aware that the rv industry had been selling units with composting toilets. I thought they still had the old-style black water tanks. That you had to find a RV dump for.  I do feel sorry for the state workers who get to pick this up.
Totally unaware of what they are  handling.

My camp toilet is built almost exactly like Jrebel's (except no hand rails) with an enclosure like Rainier's. I also have the TP in a gallon jar and Bugle magazines in a shoe box with a Coleman battery lamp hanging from the top.

Continuing with this crappy subject......if you use Baby Wipes or Dude Wipes (not a bad idea if you are out there for a week or more).......do not make the lazy mistake of leaving them out next to your latrine.......their effectiveness is reduced when frozen solid.

Here is a picture of the original design with PVC enclosure......quickly ditched that idea for the ground blind in closure.  The big buddy heater was not gonna be overly effective with the PVC enclosure. 

We use the 12 gallon totes like the one pictured.  Lined with two contractor bags it is perfect.  The seat height is right at the tote height so you don't have to worry about spraying the underside of the structure following chili night. 

We will scoop ashes from the fire pit and put in the toilet occasionally to keep the nastiness covered and smell down. 


Also.....way to may folks with shallow pits for crapper use.  To be quite honest....it is nasty and you all are so dirty mother lovers... !!  There is a spot in the Entiat that has multiple sites that were clearly dug for crappers.  It is disgusting knowing folks are putting their tents / campers 5-20 feet away from holes full of crap.  You know dogs are digging it up too.....  Don't be lazy, pack it out and dispose of it properly.

Seen two deer feeding last year during elk season... Got to about 10 yards before I had to wipe... And a few years ago a little bear walked up and climbed over some of that slash right by me taking a crap... I just sat there and watched him... Got to within about 3 yards of me... Could've tagged the little bear with my 38 snub... But he was probably less than 100#... I was expecting to see momma in an after thought... That's about 100' behind the wall tent...
