Offseason nest raiders.
« on: Yesterday at 04:06:21 PM »
Sounds like ravens are becoming a major problem for the prairie pothole region eating waterfowl eggs like never before in the past 10 years and getting worse according to Delta.

Seagulls are  right there with em, only they grab the hatchlings as soon as they hit the water. Ravens are also the major predator on chukar eggs.

A couple of ravens picked off the whole brood of 10 chicks from one of my laying hens last year.  The wife saw them do it.  I'd have shot them in the face.

It’s a cruel world for ducks.  This spring watched a raven fly over where the songbirds were and that raven got pecked many times no matter which direction it went until it left the area. So started to wonder how biologists say songbirds are being decimated with billions less since the 70’s. So maybe now ravens found out they can now fly over nesting areas without being harassed from our little flying friends? Then could ravens be finding out there is just about a 2 yard strip of cover around vast majority of wetlands making easier with almost no ground to cover for their egg hunt?

Ravens are one of the worst, if not the worst predator of turkey nests in NE WA. They need to be controlled!
