Just curious what everyone uses and why.  Plus it might help some new-bees out.

777 ffg loose for me. So far the cleanest and most reliable I've been able to find.

I use the 777 pellets for speed and convenience. Seems to shoot great in my Knight Bighorn.

777 – loose.  Loose because it’s cheaper, more flexible, and easier to ignite than pellets, 777 because it’s cleaner and more powerful than anything else that I’ve tried.

Pyrodex Select. Shoot it in my rifle and revolvers. I use it and like it ,just haven't tried anything else. Kinda a creature of habit. I have been meaning to try  the triple 7 though. I've heard good stuff about it.

I used to use Pyrodex Pellets and then this year I switched to Shockey's Loose and the groups are not even close to as good as my Pyrodex.  So I'm going to go back to Pyrodex.... although I think I might have to try the 777 because it seems y'all like it alot.

According to Hodgdons, Pyrodex & 777 need a starting charge:

Flintlock: To insure proper ignition in flintlock systems, 5 grains of FFFFG priming powder should be placed into the bore prior to loading the main charge of Triple Seven or Pyrodex. Consult the loading data in this brochure to determine the proper charge for the caliber firearm used and the chosen projectile. The main powder charge should be reduced by 5 grains to compensate for the addition of the priming powder. While holding the firearm vertically, slowly pour the measured charge of Triple Seven or Pyrodex into the barrel. Seat the projectile firmly against the powder. Make certain that there is no airspace between the powder and the projectile. *See WARNING below.
