bearpaw: worst was some scraps we had put in a plastic bag because they were just small loose pieces.

I'm not here to bust your balls, but why the plastic bags? Loose meat goes will in agame bags.

To be honest putting the meat in plastic bags is no different then hanging it in 70 degree weather or keeping the hide on a bear for 5 hours on purpose.  :dunno:

kinda what I was thinking.  It will cool better in a plastic bag than with that hide on.(not promoting plastic bags by the way....)

I am not promoting plastic bags either, but rather pointing out that all three examples are bad practices.

Was a huge mistake....those scraps in the plastic bag was the meat that spoiled the worst....the packs we had were for backpacking and had nylon bags and even the meat inside the packs that wasn't in plastic was bad. Better to take the bag off those packs and use just the pack frame rather than the backpacking packs with the bag.

Point in telling the story was to tell what not to do and hopefully save some bear meat from spoiling.

If you want a good laugh i could probably tell a few other big mistakes through the years. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

I'll add this.....I was 20 years less intelligent, 20 years ago.... :chuckle:

I'm sure no one would like to leave the hide on for 5 hrs or hang a animal in 70 degree heat, but it happens. All I'm saying is I've done it and if you do certain things it will work. Don't stop hunting because it's hot out, just deal with it, be ready for the heat and have a good hunt. BTW, meat in a plastic bag does not breath it will go bad no matter how cool it is unless you freeze it, hanging meat in the shade in 70 degree heat will work as long as it cools down at night.

You are absolutely correct, then in the morning a person better get something done with the meat before it heats back up over 70.

One thing that hasn't been said about hot weather hunting is the live body temp of a bear. Once you kill a bear and gut it, it's already cooling down to the outside temp. I'm not saying take your time, but you do have time.
Cooling down to the outside temp?  But the outside temp here where I hunt is between 90 and 100 degrees.  So I have time because the bear will "cool down" to 95 degrees?  Hmmmmmm

What I'm saying is it takes time to cool down to the outside temp. A bear isn't going to spoil right away. :bash:

I could not have shot one even if it was laying next to my truck.  My brothers and I drank all our water, sweated through our clothes and were eaten alive by bugs.  We were so dehydrated and funky that we just went home on Saturday night.  We still had fun though.   :chuckle:

Looks to be a lot cooler this weekend.  I am leaving friday night and should be up in the woods all weekend.   As long as I dont run out of bug spray.   :chuckle:  You know my sunblock and bug spray smell kinda sweet think they could get me for baiting.  J/k dont answer that.   :chuckle:

bearmanric did you have any activity last weekend?  You should have been about 20 degrees cooler over there than what the rest of us were dealing with.
