I agree. I did a lot of research before I bought my Leica CRF 1200. It was well worth the money spent. This site had some good info.

Go Leupold.  I would have purchased one had I note burned a hole in the pocket book with the Leica 1200.

I think you should spend a little more than you can afford, you won't miss the money as much as you'll kick yourself later for not spending it. I have the Leupold Boone and Crocket, good range finder, but I should have spent a little more and went with Leica. Leica is the best rangefinder I've used. I like my Leupold, but it would have been worth the extra money to get the best. I am slowly learning that saving money on optics only costs more in the long run.

I have a Nikon it works great. everything else i have is Leupold.

I have the leica 10x42 rangefinding binos, they work great and cover two tasks . They are far better with target pick up and low light than any of the others I've used . just don't tell your wife the cost. well worth buying leicas.

Not a Nikon or Leupold, but here's my  .  Bought a Brunton Echo range finder from Bass Pro for 99 bucks about a week ago.  Now, haven't used it hunting yet, but it's accurate, easy to use, compact and so far reliable.  Good from 15 yd-440.  It's also pretty basic too, only has two buttons.  I love Nikon and Leupold (leupold scopes on all my rifles) but for the money, couldn't beat the Brunton.

the thing with the nikon and leupold models he is looking at is both models measure angle as well to give you actual shot distance

Of the two you asked about I can't tell you but if you can swing it the Leica CRF 1200 works like a champ. i was ranging out to 1236 yards today in bright sunlight off rocks and sage brush. Just bring a spare battery as you will be ranging everything in sight and run the battery down sooner than expected.
