5 crappie in 20 minutes
« on: August 06, 2009, 03:59:30 PM »
They were biting today for sure. I got 5 crappie in 20 minutes off the dock. Let 2 of em go, although they were similar in size. Turning them into pan fish chowder tonight...we'll see how it turns out.

Oh man I love crappie, I have about 40 pounds of fillets in the freezer, I take them out once a month as a treat for me and the wife. I have my brother from NY ship them out here, did not even know you could get them that size out here.

bbq'ed up some last year...tasted like sulfur...freaking horrible..

the chowder is for sure the way to do it, in my opinion. it's been catch and release since that sulfur incident.

Mine,

dredged in eggs, equal parts flour, corn meal and Italian bread crumbs(the secret part)....Must be fried oil in a cast iron skillet on a coleman stove at a picnic table, preferably at Potholes State Park.....at least that is where I have the best memories of great crappie fry's.....
