Im looking to buy my first steelhead and salmon fishing spinning rod. I would like to get a decent one but cant afford to spend big time $$$$ I found a lamiglas 9'6" certified pro 8-17 lb brand new for 100 bucks which i thought wasnt too bad just wondering if anyone would recommend this and whether or not that is a decent deal. It would depend on which Lamiglas model it is! Being that it is under $100 I would say probably the Cascade Pro Series.....It is a good rod, but, I have had a couple of them and the cork is not real good.....
Now last year I bought a Okuma Guide Select Series 10'6" 6-17lb rode for $89 (spinning rod)....Since then I have bought 2 more of them.....Absolutely AWESOME rods for the money!!! Very light tip with enough backbone to guide fish where you want them! Have used them for everything from Rufus Woods, Columbia Steelhead, Sockeye on Lake Wenatchee, and even some late season Chinook fishing on the Icicle!
I would not have and reservation in telling people to pick one up!!!

Hope this helps!

Go with a custom biult Rainshadow. A great Rod for the moeny and biult just for you. You are looking at about $150.00 for a rod that is better than you might find in the stores for $350.00+ Best bang for the buck. IMHO

It's all I fish anymore. I have over 20 custom biult Rainshadow and Rouge rods. I havn't used a factory rod in nearly 10 years.

What kind of steelhead fishing are you planning on doing?  For drifting for steelhead I use a Berkley Air Ramsey 9'6" medium action spinning rod and love it.  Pair that with a Pfluger Presidential reel and you would have one heck of a combo for $140

i build custom rods, though mostly for my own use.  it's a good way to go -- if nobody makes one to the specs you're looking for.  for a first rod i'd probably recommend against it, as they tend to cost a lot more money than most factory rods.

I'm going to disagree.  Example..... Several years back my uncle had a GLoomis 1143 biult with Sicti guides and Rose Wood reel seat. It cost him about $225.00. To go to a store and buy the SAME rod with the junky guides and factory reel seat and crappy cork it would have been nearly $350.00 with tax.

Now make that a Rainshadow blank with same components and you can nock off about another $75.00 and IMHO get a better quality rod.

I have a guy in Oregon biuld my rods. THCUSTOMRODS.COM I have never spent over $165.00 on a rod and they are far better quality than any factory rod for 3x the money.  I own over 20 and hope to double that in the next few years.
