Elk Hunting in Wilderness Areas??
« on: August 23, 2009, 07:59:12 PM »
So there is a high buck season in certain Wilderness areas. Does anyone know if the WDFW allows elk hunting in Wilderness areas? Wilderness areas are not contained in any GMU's or Elk areas, so it appears that there is no hunting Elk in those areas.

Does anyone know if they ever allow hunting in wilderness areas?? Or are they regulated somewhere else?

It is legal to hunt elk in wildnerness areas. The state's wilderness areas do fall into the GMU sectors.

Sure, lots of elk hunting in official Wilderness Areas. They are all part of a GMU. There is no separate elk season for elk in wilderness areas like there is with the early rifle deer hunt, but you can hunt wilderness areas with archery, muzzleloader, or rifle tags during the general seasons. There ARE a few "Elk Areas" that have rifle permits with a September season, such as the Goat Rocks, Carlton, and Mt Adams, but they are extremely difficult to draw.

Good point, you should definitely have it all to yourself though...sounds like fun I love getting away from people regardless of my success rate. Have fun and be safe.
