Cheney deer
« on: August 25, 2009, 10:16:30 PM »
I just got invited to go hunt some private land thats 7 or 8 miles south of Cheney for the archery opener next week, I've never hunted any farther east then Ellensburg and know nothing about this area. Can anyone tell me if this is decent deer country or should I stay close to home and use the first 7 days to scout out some W. Wa. elk?
It definitely sounds interesting since I haven't done much whitetail hunting but I don't want to waste my time (kitchen passes ;)) if this is a poor area.

If you have access to truley private land then yeah go for it, there are some nice deer out there, just be aware the weather is going to be warm, hunt the fields if they are avail at dusk or be in the transition areas between the fields and bedding first light before the sun comes up..
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

Just got a few more details, its 50 acres of private land and the land owner has a problem with deer in his orchards. Looks like I'm making a road trip

Water out there can be a deadly ambush site, depending on where this property is

50 acres isn't much ground, but if the deer are using it, it should be good for an archery hunt.

He means if theres not lots of water around and you find a good watering hole you can set up and wait for the the deer to come in and then whack them.
You sure you know how to skin griz pilgram

yep, water out there can either be a TON of water in some areas or a little bit in others, making it much easier to pick where the deer are watering if very little water

A lot of quality deer in the Medical Lake/Cheney area.  Consider yourself lucky to get hunting access.  Good luck!
