I got National Geographic maps on my computer at home and they're awesome. I think you can put those on your gps.

You can only down load routes and way point to the Garmin.

I had the same problem, not enough detail on the GPS unit display.  I ended up buying the chip for Washington/Oregon(TOPO U.S. 24K - Northwest) and what a difference.  The map source stuff is crap even with the upgrades.  I love the National Geographic maps so I have the sofeware and download my GPS to it and upload routes and waypoints.

So I have a question about the difference between the DVD and the card.  If I buy the DVD and load it up can I download it a blank card to stuff in the SD slot on the gps?  I have a Rhino 530 HCX and am tryiong to figure out which one to buy.  I know if I get the DVD I can share the map with my friend who has a 120 but to save memory on the gps we were wondering if you can dump the maps on a blank card.
