.300 WSM
« on: December 27, 2007, 04:54:37 PM »
I just bought a Remington 700 CDL SF. I am wondering if there is a certian way to "break the gun in". Any info is appreciated. I want to get the best accuracy that I can. Thanks

Everyone has their own beliefs on this one.  Mine is kinda extensive, but I have had great results.  Bores foul very little.  Accuracy is a argument, but I have had good results with all my rifles.  I use the heaviest and cheapest bullet for caliber I can get.  Use a good quality one piece coated rod.  I use 50/50 Kroil and GM Top Engine cleaner for powder, JB and Sweets for copper.  Rem Oil for gun oil.  I use solvent on both ends every pass.  JB just to half way out muzzle then back to chamber.

20 rounds = 1 Shot, Powder Solvent w/Bronze brush 10 passes, JB Bore Paste on three different patches wrapped around nylon brush, Wet Patches, Bronze W/Solvent 5 passes, Finish up with Sweets on patches and Nylon until no color shows.  Wet solvent patches and leave bore Md. oiled

30 rounds = 3 Shots then repeat above.  May require a second 10 pass and more sweets but not multiple JB's.

I then fire a few rounds and see how easily it cleans with only solvent and Sweets.  If I am doing a lot of scrubbing with sweets then I do another 10-20 single shots.  I never go past 100 rounds as I have not seen the bore get any more polished or reduce fouling.

It takes time, but on a $1400 investment what is a little time.
