Calling for blacktail? Does it work?
« on: September 26, 2009, 02:55:36 PM »
Talked to a guy today and he suggested i try a " can call " or a " Grunt tube" so i am just wondering what he was talking about and if they would be worth buying some. I hunt archery only and have very little experience. Thanks.

ive rattled for blackies and used the can with some success, only had small bucks and does show up.a few years back a friend put tinks 69 scent on some wafers and hung on some trees, one of the trees was widdled down to a toothpick. we hunted that buck for five days before he made a mistake and we got him. the second rut is going during the late archery season so you should be able to call some in . goodluck!

I've rattled and grunted them in during November.  H.S. Scents use to sell a blacktail estrus and dominant buck sprays that worked fairly well under the right conditions.  I think that I still have some dominant buck spray in my beer fridge in the garage.  The stuff must be 8 or 9 years old, probably bad, eh?

Sunbirds has a good variety of blacktail scents.  I believe Wholesale does as well.

I've tried tubes with no luck, I've heard the cans work better.
