any West side of the sound grouse?
« on: September 27, 2009, 04:45:15 PM »
I want to take my lab out and introduce her (and me) to Grouse.  Any pointer on the west side of the sound?  I've google'd bing'd etc and have not found much talk about them over hear.   I live in Kitsap but will travel.

How about mountain quail?  I know the Pheasant answer.

I don't know of anything near Kitsap but I was in the same position as you.
What I did was look up the previous year's reported results on which counties reported the higher grouse harvests in Region 2 - Coastal.
Then just find some national forest land (stay out of the national parks) and head up the forest service roads and find some small roads off them and start hunting.
I met a warden up on the forest roads was lucky enough to get some pointers on where he had seen hunters getting higher numbers in my county last year, gonna go try his recommendations on Friday.

I found some okay numbers up in the Wynoochee area.  Old overgrown logging roads.

Good luck!
