2 New Bird Hunters
« on: September 29, 2009, 05:05:34 PM »
Well... Since all my kid's are grown and gone..  I have to borrow kid's to take hunting. One of my past students from Junior High School [Kerry], is now a father of 2  awesome kid's..  Magen and Kieon. So this past week-end with early youth opener, I took out Kieon, and a school mate of his [Arron]. Neither one had ever been bird hunting before. Hunting conditions we'rnt the best... warm and no breeze...  was tough for the dogs to pick up scent, but Tank put up around 12-14 pheasant for em. Both boy's took some great shots, but at the end of the day, they learned you need to lead a bird, and follow through. They were real troopers, hiked all day and never complained a bit. Kerry, and Magen followed behind us....  and I think I only heard Magen ask twice "when we gonna stop for a rest ?" 2 days before the hunt, Kieon hurt his foot during football practice, so they had him wearing one of those medical walking boots...  he never let it slow him down, and we went up and down some good hills. Here's a few pic's of their hunt

Here is Kieon with his first ever Pheasant

This is Arron with his first bird

And of course we can't forget Magen

Here's the boy's with their birds and Tank

Little do the kids know..   I probably had a better time than they did..... and all they could say was what a blast they had, and when can they do it again....  Now I just need to get them into waterfowl hunting.

I would be hard pressed to figure out a better way to spend a day.  Nice work on getting out there with the kiddos.

That is awesome Wayne  :IBCOOL:. I took the daughter out for the youth hunt over here. She got to watch a few fly off on Saturday, said they fly a lot quicker when they are not in a pen  :chuckle:, but was ready to get one on Sunday. We were only 10 minutes in on Sunday when she got stung in the ear by a yellow jacket  :(. Pretty much ruined the hunt for her. We will be out again but the hunting will not be as easy during the general season.

Wayne,

That is awesome that you are willing to help bring the sport to other people, especially kids. Keep up the good work!
