t/c new muzzle loader are u kidding me?
« on: October 01, 2009, 07:07:16 PM »
i talk to t/c today about a new ram rod for my black diamond xr the lady told me that they are putting out a new muzzle loader i thought cool until she said that its going to be called like the northwest explorer the crappy part is it will only use #11 caps which i am a huge musket cap fan but the worst thing is t/c firearms has put a 1:48 twist in the barrel all the new muzzleloaders are usually 1:28 the 1:48 won't stabilize a sabot worth hell she said it is for the conical shooters i told her most of the people still shooting them are the old hawken guys and such i think they will have a hard time selling it what do you guys think?

There are some really good conical bullets especially now that we are able to use jacketed bullets. I think the 1:48 twist will be fine. You could probably find some saboted bullets that would shoot ok as well.

i 100% agree with you but i still think it will have a hard time finding a market and i have shot conicals out of my 1:28 and they shoot just fine but i don't how many people will go out and buy a new muzzleloader to only shoot conicals

Keep in mind WA just changed our regs to allow sabots. What about ID, OR and MT. They have probably been working on this since before WA changed the regs.

Right. And speaking of Powerbelts, I think they should shoot good in a 1:48 twist. I didn't like them when only the lead ones were legal but now that we can use the jacketed ones I think they might be worth a try.

I really like a heavy conical. A 460-510gr conical will drop anything it hits.
Smoke em when ya see em!

Thats what I was thinking. Nipple should be interchangeable. Almost all of them are now.

thats what i thought i almost bought a break open traditions xt west that uses #11 caps but it comes with a red peice of paper that says do not replace with a musket cap because it will ruin  the action on the gun and mess up the intenal parts so no you can't always just change them out and yes i did ask the same question to the t/c lady and she said they are not interchangeable on there new rifle #11 only but you guys are right on some rifles like my cva elkhorn and black diamond xr all it was is replace a nipple in the diamond and a nipple and breech plug in the cva

I think I'll just stick to my T/C Black Diamond XTR.  Works great.  It's more accurate than I am.
