I'd say cougar looking into the camera sidways so you cant see his ear and he's too close to see his nose!

i dont think it could be an owl. If it was you'd be able to see the feather pattern and contours. To me it looks like a cougar with its head sideways. Notice how the eye corners are vertical instead of side to side.
