Scope for .22-250
« on: October 07, 2009, 08:08:54 PM »
Hey guys.  Lookin for a bit of advice here.  I need to put a scope on my ruger M77 MKII .22-250 it has a bull barrel and laminated stock (totally factory),  i would like to put something like a 6-24 bushnell or something like that.  A buddy put a barska on his and its crap wont hold zero and clarity is poor.  Another factor is that im limited to 300-350 bucks.  It did have a leupold 6-18 VX II but i took it off and put it on my new .300 WSM.  (good excuse to buy a scope huh).  Anyway i would appreciate any input.

Thanks
Scott

the new nikkon coyote is pretty sweet, good glass and in your price range. plus its camo, what else could you want. i'll be getting one myself pretty soon

6-18 on that 300 is a pretty powerful scope.  Better hope something doesn't run 30 yards from you! Will be pretty tough to find in the scope even if it's turned all the way down.

I would say throw the 6-18 back on the 22-250 and buy a Leupold VX-II 4-12 for the 300.  :twocents:

i would listen to Rich. you're apt to do a whole lot more long range shooting with .22 unless you like the long range big game hunting stuff.

I had a 6X24 for coyotes but didn't like it. I have since switched to 4.5X14 on my bolt gun and a 3X9 on the AR. It's a matter of taste, a lot of guys swear by the 6X24 and while they are fun I just think they're too powerful than what is needed for coyotes. IMO the 4.5X14 is perfect. If it were purely a target rifle or a prairie dogger then the higher power would be great but not for yotes.

the coyote is a nice scope but at 100 yards that yote is pretty small in that big circle i like to be more pin point if they had down sized that first circle a bit it would be great but i will stick with my duplex a bushnell banner 4-12 40mm will run you like 100 and i have one on all three of my ar-15 and my 22 lr with the 22-250 not much recoil it is a good scope for that gun never had one problem with any of mine save the big money for the gas to go blast some yotes

Well i took out the .300 with the 6-18X40 out opening weekend and you guys are absolutely right.  It is too much scope for hunting even at 6 it was tough to put the crosshairs on something close.

So now I'm looking for the Leupold VXII 4-12 AO for the .300 and putting the 6-18 back on the .22-250 .  Any good suggestions on where to go for the best price on a non counterfeit leupy?

BTW thanks guys for the solid advice.

check out www.bearbasin.com. I put a Nikon Monarch 3-12x42 on my .243 and am very happy with it. Their prices are as good as you'll find on a new piece of glass.
