There is a section in the Washington Big Game rule book that defines the muzzy equipment regulations, read all that and you should be able to find a muzzy that works for Washington in no time !!!

Don't buy a TC Black Diamond XR though instead if you run accross one of those just send me the information so I can buy it !! I need a couple more of em :P

What caliber are you guys recommending?  I know 40 is minimum for big game.  I'm gonna get my 16 year old nephew into ML so I can help him kill some elk when they are more vocal.

White .45 cal with a 460-490 grain lead conical will drop anything in its way :) You can still find White's for sale NIB good value.

.50 cal. knight. I like the disc extreme. no slideing action and uses a real firing pin/bolt set up. You should still be able to find a good price on a knight. The knight bighorn is the most common you will find in Wa.

What can I expect to pay for a bighorn or a blackdiamond? I see what they are running new...where is a good source for reputable used one?

Thanks guys....Love this site!

Now can you guys tell me here in WA we can only use #11 musket caps.....right? And if someone can tell me what page in the regs I can find this info, I would be grateful....cant find it!

Bowcop,
The Muzzleloader regulations are on Page 62 of the hunting regulations Pamphlet.

You are correct in Wa we can only use #11 or musket caps and the Ignition Must be open to the weather, so Bolt actions and any rifle using 209 primers are not legal.

You wont regret coming over to Muzzy hunting its a kick 8)

Natchez Shooters Supply has a bunch of Black powder rifles on closeout, looked like the prices were pretty good.

Doc White has quite a few used inlines for sale also, all are legal here.

Bowcop,
I am not aware of a list of rifles leagal for WA. I suppose someone may have one. Just pay attention to the ignition area and if the cap is open to the elements, (in-line or not) than it should be legal. I don't believe the Rem M700ML is legal. (IMO)

The older Mod 700 ML's had an "open to the elements" ignition. My dad has one collecting dust in his safe.

All the sugestions sound good.

At Cabelas, they have a CVA Buckhorn and one other model I think its a Traditions. that are both under $200.  If you get the kit for either it has a musket and #11 primer.  Just remove the scope and swap out the 209 primer with a legal one and away you go.
A pat on the back is just shy of a kick in the ass..

Now I have a question on the Buckhorn....I looked at the picture and I don't understand how this is a legal gun in WA....it does not appear that the ignition is exposed.....can someone explain....

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp;jsessionid=VBJOIALTSXZWBLAQBBKCCO3MCAEFKIWE?id=0064080216878a&type=product&cmCat=froogle&cm_ven=data_feed&cm_cat=froogle&cm_pla=1220102&cm_ite=0064080216878a&_requestid=36819

I know that if I bought this, I would have to swap out the 209 for the #11....which brings up another question...where do all of you buy your pyrodex pellets and bullets?

TIA!

Bowcop,
With the cap in place and the action ready to fire, the Ignition is exposed to the elements. Dont let it fool you I have had more issues with my inlines getting wet than my sidelocks. There is no drain in the inline!

Chuck the #11 idea and use the musket caps. Much hotter!! IMO.

Be sure to check out gunbroker.com. They can be shipped right to you unlike a modern firearm.

Bob's Sporting Goods in Longview is a good local place to check them out.
