Klickitat Crowds....
« on: October 26, 2009, 05:54:06 AM »
Been huntin klickitat unit for as long as i could get up and down the canyons, never have i ever seen as many hunters as i did this year. I hunt private land that is adjacent to another land owner who i have permission from to hunt. Usually noone hunts his land at all. His land also lines up with some public land, usually not to many people there either, a truck or two. I guess i've been spoiled because everywhere i turned was an orange vest. They were all sitting on the rims of canyons hoping a big smart buck was going to walk out and give them a shot? I have a pretty good two way radio, i scanned channels when i heard shots and it amazes me the things you here over it! For example i heard a single shot, scanned the radios and i here "Hey did you shoot" the reply was "Ya i got one down" then, i'm assuming a hunting partner said "Right on man where are you at" the next reply i here from the shooter was "hold on i'm walking up to it, making sure it's what it's suppose to be".......i got pretty heated.
I don't know what this guy was thinking, shooting before you put 3 on an animal?
Ruger brought back the .220, i just shoot it.

Wonderful. I am also amazed at what goes on in the woods too.... Did you get a buck on your hunt?

Yeah, it was busy.  Saw a guy out there on the side of the road using the guard rail as his rifle rest, aiming up across the road (and over my truck!).  There was nowhere for me to pull over to get his plates, otherwise I would have called it in.

Yes it is crowded, but really there is only half the hunters there used to be, it seems more crowded because there is only about one third available land in the area to hunt anymore.   :( Swiftkid what landowner do you have permission with to hunt?

I'd have a pretty good idea if you'd said white dodge.

I hunted around the Klikitat this year. It did seem crowded; we saw many hunting camps. We talked to several hunters and counted at least 7 deer being taken out opening day from that one area. Saw a couple cleaning a large doe towards sunset - hope he had a doe tag. I got skunked, Again. Saw a bunch of doe's but no bucks. There's always next year.
