« on: October 21, 2009, 01:25:56 PM »
White goose hunting was great today done by 9:00 am should of been done allot earlier if i could hit something.I think i need to use modified choke instead of full choke when hunting over decoys.Plus i had two black cloud shells that did not fire . >:( and :IBCOOL:

i reload my own shells for hunting and learned my lesson opening day. MAKE SURE THE PRIMERS ARE SEALED WELL ENOUGH!!! lol i would have had 2 more ducks then i finished with but the powder in 2 of my shells got wet because i did not seal the primers well enough :bash:  good job on the geese though :IBCOOL: where abouts on the skagit were you?

Elliott, probably should read the first paragraph under this title off of the WDFW website I gave a link to:

Important changes to the Snow Goose Quality Hunts

http://wdfw.wa.gov/wlm/game/water/snow_goose/index.htm

If your hunting on Fir Island, the quality hunt areas are not open to anyone on Sundays or Mondays.  No use taking a chance on getting an unnecessary game violation ticket.

Went down Boe road today to see how many geese are in that end of the flock and I witnessed at two different times a Snowgoose get shot, land in the Reserve section.  Each time a hunters dog went well into the reserve area to retrieve the bird. I don't think that was legal from what I understand???  Oh well no game agent, but there are quite few birds down in that end of it. Did see some birds come down from the north end though.  Nice to see the goose numbers so far.  My group on a private field did get 9 on opening day and they decoyed real well.

I tried for some snows this morning but never got a shot.  Lots of birds but their flight pattern was to get high, about 70 yards up, before flying over the dikes.  Once over the dikes the sky busters potted at them and they went higher, the traffic on the roads spooked them even higher.  By the time they came over the fields they paid little attention to my meager spread of decoys.
