My cat and mouse buck

This year was one of the best years of my life, but one of the worst for deer hunting. The way things worked out, my daughter was born on Oct. 6. I know, a rookie move for the most part but hey thats just how it worked out. Sooooo the wife wasn't all that thrilled with me going any long distance over east to hunt muleys like I do every year with my dad. Well at least I got to do some hunting over here on the wetside. I started off by planting out the trail cam in an area that I figured would hold a deer or two a week before the general season. Not anticipating much, I was excited when I started getting this guy on camera. All was looking good for me other than it appeared he was nocturnal at first
Ive never killed a BT before so I figured with the limited amount of hunting I was going to be able to do it was worth a shot. I would get him on my cam just about every night until two days before the season. I was sort of bummed after opening day with no pics and no action. I figured he had moved on. Well as luck would have it, he started showing up again on the cam getting excited again. Well finally after a long time of waiting in anticipation, persistence paid off and this guy slipped up big time. I was all by myself when I shot him. I immediately hit the cell phone and started going down the list of buddies who could help me come get him out of the woods. After an exciting afternoon I killed my first BT buck. He's a good solid mature buck with all kinds of trash around his bases. Notice the crazy sticker that comes off the back on the base. He had about a 5" long eye gaurd that looked like an elk in some of the TC pics, but had busted it off. I didn't have a camera so no field pics so thats kind of a bummer. Don't worry guys, he's already at my dads in these pics so no orange was needed. My son was excited about his dads buck. He was a big boy too, weighed in at 140lbs at the butcher. They said it was the biggest bodied BT they had seen this year.

Dandy of a BT buck you have there! I'm very impressed...Do you have a pic or two from the TC that shows the eye guard that got busted off?

Here is one of the TC pics that shows him with the eye guard that busted off. Its hard to tell from that pic but I have pics at home that show it better. Its a good 4 or 5 inches long. I might go back this weekend and look around all the thrashed trees to see if I can find it.

Thanks for the compliments guys!

I see what you meant about that eye guard. Hope you find it, but if you don't bummer... At least you have pics of what it did look like.
