I need Elk Capes!
« on: November 02, 2009, 07:54:38 PM »
I need some Extra Elk Capes.

Price depends on the size and quality of the cape.  Nice Elk capes bring around $125.  Thats for a decent size cape with little to no blemishes and caped correctly.  Larger than average capes bring more.  I will exchange antler plaques for capes or shop credit.  If I have enough cash available sometimes I will pay cash.

If any of you shoot an animal with a nice cape and decent neck size and don't plan on mounting it, please let me know.  Just cape it out and put it in the freezer or bring it right to me.  The antlers and/or Horns will be returned to you.  If you have any questions just give me a call: (360) 704 - 0034.

Field Care information located here:

Darn....we left three capes in the hills this year all from branch antlered bulls.  One was absolutely amazing....but we talked about it and said forget it.  For a set price we would have kept all three of them had we known.  We always leave capes behind unless it goes on the wall, and left three last year from a spike, 5x5, and a 6x6 all in perfect shape.  We know exactly how to take care of them including caping the skull, but unless we are going to mount it we just leave them.  I had a bud who paid 250 for a nice whitey cape from a taxi.  I understand making a living, but taking an extra hour to cape out an animal, packing out the cape, and then fleshing it out is a pain.  I'm sure we can come up with a fair price where you can make a profit, and it makes it worth our time.  Can provide some pics of the ones we have left.

All I need is the animal caped off the body.  Only needs to be caped off the skull if you need freezer space or can't get it to me within a couple days.  Doesn't need to be split and fleshed unless you are going to be away from a freezer longer than a few days.

Hope that whitetail cape was larger than 22" behind the ears and competition quality.

It's a MD cape...running out to the freezer now......7.5" x 22" x 25" 3" below is what the tag says.  The hair and cape is perfect.

$250 for a cape as long as it was a masher cape and already profesionally tanned , seams about right to me.

250 seems to be the price I have heard from several Taxi's.  Yes, it needs to be a quality winter/rut cape.  Why would you want a thin pencil neck cape anyway?

Thats a price if a Taxi wants to make money on them, I pretty much give them away @ 175 for a big one. And 125  on average.

Because that is what was on their deer when they shot it.  Especially early archery deer.

It must be a bit frustrating seeing bucks and bulls hacked off at the neck. You guys are making an honest plea to folks to save the capes if thier not using them. I save mine for a taxi friend down here and he is very appriciative.
